WELCOME to Eighth Street Mennonite Church! May you experience God's presence in this time of worship and fellowship. Visitors are invited to sign the guest book in the narthex and to worship with us again.
Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29 Litany
Leader: O give thanks to the Lord, for God is good;
God's steadfast love endures
forever!
All: Let Israel say, "God's steadfast love endures forever."
Leader: Open to me the gates of righteousness,
that I may enter through them
and give thanks to the Lord.
All: This is the gate of the Lord;
the righteous shall enter through it.
Leader: I thank you that you have answered me
and have become my salvation.
All: The stone that the builders rejected
has become the chief cornerstone.
This is the Lord's doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes!
Leader: This the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
All:
Save us, we beg of you, O Lord!
O Lord, we beg of you to give us
success!
Leader: Blessed is the one who comes in the name of
the Lord.
We bless you from the house of the
Lord.
All:
The Lord is God and has given us light.
Bind the festal procession with
branches,
up to the horns of the altar.
Leader: You are my God, and I will give thanks to
you;
you are my God, I will extol you.
All:
O give thanks to the Lord, for God is good.
God's steadfast love endures
forever.
Psalm
31:9-16
Prayer of Confession Litany
Leader: In this Lenten season, we pray with the psalmist:
"I have become like a broken vessel…
I trust in you, O Lord…
Deliver me."
All: We come as we are, O God;
we acknowledge our brokenness;
we look to you for restoration.
Leader:
As broken vessels,
we need you to open the gates of
our hearts.
Our worship is sometimes halfhearted.
Our praise is shallow,
and our resolve to follow you is weak
All: Restore us, O God.
Leader: In this past week, we have again encountered
what is broken and needy within us.
(Pause for silent review)
Leader: We turn to you, Cornerstone of our lives,
you who were broken and rejected that we might live.
All: Bless us, O God.
Heal us and make us whole
that we may reflect your image more truly in the world.
We come as we are, O God;
we acknowledge our brokenness;
we look to you for restoration.

OUR SANCTUARY will reflect the joy and beauty of Easter! If you would like to share a blooming plant for our Easter service, please contact Jan Johnson. You may provide your own, or have her order one. She will make sure there is a note in the bulletin if you wish to share it in honor or remembrance of someone.
A LENTEN QUIET TIME is being planned for people of the East Goshen and Eighth Street congregations this afternoon from 1:45-4:45pm. The retreat will be led by Marilyn Voran and Myron Schrag. EAST GOSHEN MENNONITE CHURCH invites the 8th Street congregation for a special showing of the CBS film FAIL SAFE at East Goshen (17861 SR 4) this Wednesday, April 19 at 6:30pm. The movie has a powerful message about nuclear war. It is a sad reminder that ten years after the end of the cold war, the threat of nuclear war still exists. We are invited to join them for this movie and snacks. There will also be opportunity to discuss ways we (members of a peace church) can appropriately respond to the fact that our nation continues to maintain a nuclear arsenal.
THE MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE on April 20 will begin at 6:30pm with a light supper provided by the Kitchen Committee, followed by a Service of Shadows in the sanctuary which will include communion. There will be a basket for an offering for the Congregational Care Fund. If you can provide lodging, please indicate so on a pew card or let the church office know (533-6720). Indicate whether you prefer men or women to host. A list of ensemble members is on the bulletin board.
THE ANNUAL Women's Night Out (formally known as the Mother-Daughter Banquet) is planned for Wednesday, May 10 at 6pm in Fellowship Hall. If you would like to recognize a certain 8th Street woman, please write about her and the impact she has had in your life and/or the impact she has had in our church. Remember to put your essays (under 100 words) in either Suella Gerber's or Cinamon Short's mailbox by next Sunday, April 23.
