Safe Spaces
Our primary commitment to vulnerable persons is rooted in the Gospel. Eighth Street Mennonite Church seeks to provide a safe and secure environment for all people. The church is committed to providing protective care of children, youth, and vulnerable adults who participate in church sponsored activities as well as to protecting our adult staff and volunteers.
Tools used to create safe spaces include a detailed policy and education for children and adults. Routine background checks are obtained for anyone who works with vulnerable persons at Eighth Street, whether paid or volunteer.
The Safe Congregation Policy and Procedure Manual includes definitions and a summary of Indiana law. The church’s policies and procedures for identifying and reporting abuse are listed. The document also includes forms used to manage background checks and to report abuse.
